The NCWIT Academic Alliance (AA) focuses on changing the local conditions that create barriers to attracting and graduating women in postsecondary computing by adopting and contributing research-based practices. The AA brings together more than 1,700 distinguished representatives from more than 500 colleges and universities nationwide.

The Academic Alliance also supports two other Projects within NCWIT: NCWIT Extension Services for Undergraduate Programs and NCWIT Pacesetters. NCWIT Extension Services (ES) provides customized consultation services to members of the NCWIT Academic Alliance (AA) for implementing systemic change in their undergraduate programs (UP) in ways that increase enrollment, retention, and graduation of women, while NCWIT Pacesetters is a fast-track program in which senior executives from startups, corporations, universities, and government commit to increasing their numbers of technical women. Please use the links above to learn more about how you can become involved with these great projects.

Member Tools and Resources

Use the NCWIT Activity and Change Tracker (ACT) to track your activities — a collaborative, online tool for NCWIT Alliance Members to share their broadening participation in computing efforts with all supporters and followers of NCWIT.

ACT Tracker

The NCWIT Tracking Tool is open to Academic Alliance members. This online evaluation tool helps academic departments evaluate efforts for recruiting and retaining students, by collecting and charting enrollment and outcome data (i.e., attrition, retention, completions) by major.

Tracking Tool

NCWIT Extension Services for Undergraduate Programs recommends a strategic, sustainable approach for attracting and retaining women that focuses on revising educational systems to create an inclusive experience for all students. With this model, you can create awareness and knowledge about systemic change, as women often switch out of computing majors because they feel alienated, not because of their ability or suitability for the career. And, you can identify program aspects that influence women’s participation and explore the different ways that you can make change.
